The mother of Gypsy soul- Ljiljana Buttler, formerly known as Liljana Petrovic vanished fifteen years ago from the Balkan music scene in which she played such a dominant role and left all music lovers wondering about her mysterious disappearance. But now she decided to return and record a new album. On her new CD with 12 outstanding tracks Mostar Sevdah Reunion brought the greatest Serbian Gypsy trumpet player Boban Markovic as a guest.
Her performance on this album surely shows the world why in former Yugoslavia she was referred to as the 'Gypsy Ella Fitzgerald' and the 'Billy Holiday of Gypsy Music', but mostly she was called lovingly the 'Mother of Gypsy Soul'. Which also is the title of her latest recording. Her vocal abilities on this CD lead us to the depth of Gypsy and Balkan soul. At the age of 55 she sings better then ever. What she is presenting to us now is a pure handbook of Balkan Blues. The astonishing reappearance of this lost legend is something to be more than grateful for.
This CD is produced by Snail Records for Connecting Cultures Records. Manufactured in a luxury packaging including the hardcover booklet of 40 pages.
Mostar Sevdah Reunion and Ljiljana Buttler are touring with their special program and they already have invitations from very respectable festivals including Womad festivals, Newcastle Gypsy Festival, Falun Folk Festival/ Sweden, etc...

Dragi Sestic is turning into former-Yugoslavias Nick Gold: Just as Gold has excellent ears for finding overlooked Cuban and Malian musicians, Sestic is busy giving Balkan music a professional packaging...Dragi did the required detective work to find Buttler and finally got her into the studio...
"My dear friend Dragi - you really are a wizard! I received Ljiljana's CD today to review for Folk Roots and it is magnificent! Not just the sound and singing but the cover and notes - really, I am so impressed! I wish you all the best with the launch of Connecting Cultures/Snail."

"Yes I have already heard the record from Mrs. Buttler, in fact since I've returned to Lisbon that I ONLY LISTEN TO Ljiljiana CD, Congratulations Dragi, probably it's one of the best records I've ever heard. She has a great voice and the production is great. We have to bring her with Mostar to some concerts in Portugal. We really HAVE to."

Mustafa Santic (accordionist, clarinettist and vocal of Mostar Sevdah Reunion): "Fantastic CD!!! She is definitely back and I pray for her to get the place on the World Music scene that she disserves-on the top of the World. I am so happy that I was the part of this wonderful project. I am looking forward to get the chance to record some Bosnian Sevdah songs with her. She would be the only one, non-Bosnian, to put me in Sevdah mood (Bosnian blues)"
